Christine is a very sweet person. And very serious, too. When she was having fun, she was really powerful.
Whenever there is a protest, she comes with her drums to amplify the voices, the chants with music. The music can get a rhythm so that everyone can be in unison and speak louder. She brings a lot of soul into the city.

Christine es una persona muy dulce. Y muy seria, también. Cuando se estaba divirtiendo, era realmente poderosa.
Cada vez que hay una protesta, ella viene con sus tambores para amplificar las voces, los cantos, con música. La música puede aportar un ritmo para que todas puedan estar en unísono y hablar más fuerte. Ella le da mucha alma a la ciudad.

Sandra is a pillar of strength. She was a young bride from Mexico, but stood on her feet. She does murals around the city. She helps young women who need help. I wanted to capture how you can be vulnerable and strong, how you can need help and be a helper. You have a dual role in New York City.

Sandra es un pilar de fortaleza. Se casó muy joven en México, pero se levantó. Ella hace murales por diferentes partes de la ciudad. Ayuda a las mujeres jóvenes que necesitan ayuda. Yo quise captar cómo se puede ser vulnerable y fuerte, cómo se puede necesitar ayuda y también ayudar. Tienes un doble papel en Nueva York.
Born in Mexico, Sandra immigrated to the United States at the age of 15. She is a self-taught artist and muralist, founder of the East Harlem Gallery and franchise owner of Atax East Harlem. She became an activist at age 19, supporting her community and hosting huge festivals such as Cinco de Mayo, Mexico Independence Day and Day of the Dead at East 116th Street in Manhattan. All her life she has tried to heal people and heal the community, as she continues to stand by her community, particularly single mothers.

Niani is a life-long Brooklyn New York native. She was born in Brookdale Hospital in 1976, raised in East New York in Cypress Hills Houses (NYCHA) until 1992 when the family moved to Starrett City / Spring Creek. Since 1998, Niani has been a resident of Van Dyke Houses (NYCHA) contributing to community service as a volunteer and a team leader with New York Cares on Brownsville and East New York garden projects. In 2004, she received an A.A.S Degree in Marketing and Sales and in 2007 she received B.A. in Communications from CUNY. In 2015, Niani participated with NYCHA Food Pathways Program and received a scholarship to start a food business. Since 2019, she is a full time entrepreneur; owner and operator of Munch Hours, Inc; a catering business based in Brownsville, certified as a Minority Woman Business Enterprise, serving meals throughout the 5-boroughs of New York City.
